JOINT STRIKE FIGHTER (JSF) CONTROL VALVES/ACTUATORS FOR SHORT TAKE OFF/VERTICAL LANDING (STVOL) – (WHITTAKER CONTROLS)

Structural dynamic analysis & design specifications compliance verification for pitch, roll and yaw control valves.

BENEFIT:

The benefit to the client was scientific justification for the design and reinforcement zones of the short take off actuator control valves for the joint strike fighter.  The FEA analytical results allowed engineers to focus on the sensitive areas of the actuator valve design minimizing time spent on expensive predictive modeling mainframes.

30’ SOLAR & WIND TURBINE LIGHT POLE  – (GREAT PARK – CITY OF IRVINE)

Engineering design review, structural integrity and fatigue assessment for wind loading and vortex shedding.

BENEFIT:

The benefit to the client was scientific justification for design and build criteria necessary for earthquake & wind overturn defense, 30-year longevity calculations and required City permits.

BIODIESEL PLANT DESIGN MODIFICATION & STARTUP SUPPORT – (RENEWABLE ENERGY PRODUCTS)

Mechanical design review, pressure relief system design, heat exchanger, pressure vessels and tanks design modification for codes compliance and site construction .

BENEFIT:

The benefit to the client was to quickly remediate the deficiencies from the previous contractor, bring the biodiesel plant into regulatory agency compliance, receive start-up approval and start-up the facility satisfying operational standards for the production of EPA-compliant B100. All of these efforts were rendered on an accelerated schedule to meet the original completion schedule.

GAS SCRUBBER SKID SYSTEMS FOR HEAVY OIL OFFSHORE PLATFORM IN TRINIDAD – (BSIS/PETROTIN-TRINMAR OPERATIONS, TRINIDAD)

Pressure vessels, heaters and piping design to ASME codes, skid layout, stress analysis report, construction drawings and site fabrication .

BENEFIT:

The benefit to the client was to design, engineer, fabricate and install a heavy oil hydrogen sulfide gas scrubber for an off-shore upstream platform off the Trinidad coast line as a remediation effort to a failed attempt by another contractor .   The entire project had to be completed start-to-finish within a very tight window of opportunity motivated by regulatory agency action and weather conditions.

DE-BRIDGING DEVICE FOR ELECTROSTATIC PRECIPITATOR (ESP) HOPPER MAINTENANCE (EXXON MOBIL)

Engineering design, construction drawings and fabrication .

BENEFIT:

The benefit to the client was a one-of-a-kind device that eliminated the particulate matter bridging at 650-0F that was plugging the evacuation chute within the brand new electrostatic precipitator.   The client received a custom made solution that prevented the particulate buildup minimizing O&M attention, eliminated vacuum truck down time, eliminated switch-over to backup electrostatic precipitator, reduced work-related exposures to health & safety hazards, and extended the life of the evacuation chute neck.

WIND AND STRUT SYSTEM DESIGN FOR 150 PASSENGER HYDROFOIL – (WESTFOIL INTERNATIONAL)

Wing and strut design,  stress analysis, fabrication drawings and construction .

BENEFIT:

The benefit to the client was a complete design assessment with stress analysis data to proof the innovative concept on paper and facilitate inter-department reviews and evaluation.    This promoted multiple key design changes through valuable interaction with the vessel owner and operator. The outcome was a better-than-original concept and better-than-expected field performance.

FIREWATER SYSTEM RETROFIT -(LAKELAND DEVELOPMENT COMPANY)

System flow analysis, piping modification, codes compliance verification , certification and fabrication.

BENEFIT:

The benefit to the client was multi-fold:  Accurate fire suppression system modifications and upgrades through active modeling operations that were performed prior to the successful fire marshal review and approval.  The modeling operations also facilitated the “what-if” brainstorm sessions that supported the overall plant design options.  The actual field operations of mechanical modifications, construction inspections and compliance performance testing were all performed by one entity minimizing client coordination efforts.

RESIN MANUFACTURER WAREHOUSE NEW ROOF-  (PCCR USA)

Replacement of a specialty roof panels resistant to corrosion.

BENEFIT:

The benefit to the client was the timely remediation to satisfy a regulatory agency action. While the roof replacement may sound routine, it was not.  The roof replacement was the chosen solution to an environmental need following an extensive environmental investigation.  The galvanized steel corrosion on the existing roof was contributing to high Zinc metal concentrations in the rainwater runoff to the CRWQCB outfall.

OPTICAL TRAILER FRAME MODIFICATION FOR AIR LIFT AND TRANSPORT – (AEROSPACE CORP)

Structural dynamic analysis, frame design modification, fabrication drawings, equipment tie-down procedure , design report and fabrication.

BENEFIT:

The benefit to the client was scientific justification for the design and build of the trailer superstructure and reinforcement interior to be able to withstand 4-G’s in all directions while carrying its payload in airborne transport onboard a C-17 Globemaster.

PRESSURE VESSELS AND STORAGE TANKS SEISMIC ASSESSMENT, MODIFICATION AND COMPLIANCE CERTIFICATION –(RENEWABLE ENERGY PRODUCTS)

ASME codes compliance assessment, seismic verification and support modification and compliance certification.

BENEFIT:

The benefit to the client was scientific justification for the rehabilitation of the tank leg supports for an 80,000-gallon methanol aboveground storage tank.   The rehabilitation effort was to satisfy wind and earthquake overturn requirements mandated by the local CUPA.

Replacement of a shear tank after catastrophic failure.

BENEFIT:

The benefit to the client was emergency response design, engineering, fabrication and installation with minimum operational downtime during actual replacement. The emergency response also included the design, engineering, fabrication and installation of tank load cells, power supply and operator terminal because the initial response was so swift it resulted in extra time for the load cell upgrade.
